UNDER PRESSURE
A Series by Havlock
The Under Pressure series is a study of what happens to identity when it is pushed beyond comfort—beyond clarity—beyond control.
These abstract expressionist portraits are not depictions of people, but of states. Built through thick impasto, aggressive layering, and forceful gestures, each piece captures the moment where the human form begins to fracture under invisible weight. Faces emerge, dissolve, and reassemble in real time—never fully resolving, never fully disappearing.
Pressure in this series is both physical and psychological. It compresses, distorts, and reshapes. It erases detail while amplifying presence. What remains is something raw and undeniable: a residual human signal—felt more than seen.
Set against deep, textured black grounds, the figures are pushed forward into existence, as if forced into visibility. Color becomes tension. Form becomes resistance. Every mark is a reaction—every layer a response to force.
These works live in the threshold:
between control and collapse,
between identity and abstraction,
between who we are and what remains when we are pushed too far.
Under Pressure is not about breaking—
it is about what holds,
and how long it can last.
